By: JOJO SAM
RAINBOW cultural Troupe, a dynamic traditional music and dance group will put up a show in London during the Miss Ghana @ 50 UK pageants on August 8.
Formed in 1986 at OSU in Accra, the troupe, which has carved a suitable position for itself in the entertainment industry, has over the years conveyed a rich interpretation and rendition of African cultural music and dance.
Its multi-dimensional character has been influenced greatly by the possession of a wide array of modern and traditional musical instruments that have enriched their quality of compositions, lyrics and rhyme.
With its core objectives of introducing and development the youth in traditional African music, dance and values, the troupe has thus far been able to churn out some brilliant dancers and musicians who have stood their own and began their careers in Europe with the establishment of such notable groups like the Brekete Cultural Troupe, Agoo Dance Ensemble and the Akrowa Group.
The high standards that the troupe set from inception has also inspired a lofty benchmark that has drawn spontaneous cheers and applause from enthusiastic crowds wherever they perform.
In 1990, Rainbow Cultural Troupe performed with a host of national and international artistes at the PAFAM 90 extravaganza in Ghana and acquitted itself creditably. The troupe has also been a consistent participant in PANAFEST programmes.
It has participated in many shows and features at Anansekrom, an entertainment programme that is organized by the National Commission on Culture.
During weekends and holidays, the troupe stages performances at select destinations –beaches, restaurants and hotels, including; Coco Beach, Next Door and African Market.
Rainbow Cultural Troupe is at present exploring new directions and features in the presentation of African music and dance. At the moment, it organizes mixed gender progammes at the Osu Klottey School of performing Arts.
