Nkrumah’s 100th birthday

By: TIMES REPORTER

Ghana Post has issued stamps to commemorate the 100th birthday of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

The stamps will be in five denominations of GH¢1.00, GH¢1.10, GH¢1.20, GH¢1.30, and GH¢40 and designed to typify Dr Nkrumah’s engagements abroad.

This was contained in a statement signed yesterday by the Public Affairs Manager, Mr. Otuo Acheampong”.

The statement said the GH¢1.00 stamp captures Dr. Kwame delivering an address at the Afro-Asian Solidarity Conference, whilst the GH¢1.10 stamp with the inscription, ‘Kwame Nkrumah, Projector of African Unity’ captures the AU logo at the centre of the stamp and then an image of Dr Nkrumah at the upper right corner of it.

The GH¢1.20 denomination, according to the statement shows Dr. Kwame Nkrumah at the Balmoral Castle in a chat with Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, with GH¢1.30 design heralding the signing of the charter of African unity.

It said the GH¢1.40 stamps depicts Dr. Nkrumah posing with Chairman Mao Tse Tung of China.

The statement said the commemorative issue apart from recognising Dr. Nkrumah as the founding father of the nation, also highlights his political exploits at the continental unity of Africa as well as his engagement internationally with the rest of the world including the Non-Aligned Movement.

It said Ghana Post has since its establishment played a lead role aimed at immortalising person-alities of extra accomplishments through the issuance of commemorative stamps.

And in a like manner, the company takes exceptional pride in the issue of a commerative stamp to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the first president of the Republic of Ghana”, it said.
