Ave celebrates 'Bliza' festival

AVE CELEBRATES ‘BLIZA’ FESTIVAL A grand durbar has been held by the chiefs and people of Ave traditional area in the Volta Region, to climax the 10^th anniversary celebration of the Ave Bliza. This year’s celebration which as usual was to mark the area status as one of the major maize producers in the country, brought together all the six divisional chiefs of Ave, sons and daughters of the area, as well as foreigners and well-wishers from far and near. In the speech, the Member of Parliament for Ave-Avenor, Mr. Doe Adjaho, advised the people of the upcoming general election. He said in order to ensure a peaceful and non-violent election, all the major stakeholders, including the electorate, must put aside their personal interests and work to project the nation. Mr. Adjaho, who is the Deputy Minority Leader in Parliament also called on the youth not to be used by self-seekers like multiple voting. The Akatasi District Chief Executive, Mr. Anthony Abledu, advised the youth to take advantage of some youth training programmes for junior high school graduates and get enrolled in order to acquire employable skills through the district sponsorship schemes. Torgbui Nyamekor Glakpe IV, president of the Ave Council of Chiefs, called for unity among all people of Ave descent, saying they should be fully resolved to protect and defend that social and cultural heritage. In a brief speech, the founder of the Ave-Development Union (AVE-DO), Mr. Puis Attise, asked the chief not to aloe litigations and petty squabbles to divide their front, saying that in unity lies strength. He advised the youth to abstain from drugs and crime and rather learn from the experience of people who could influence their lives. The president of the union, Mr. Mc Solo Zida, recounted some successes of the union such as the formation of the Ave Council of Chiefs (ACC) and the provision of electricity in some Ave town.
