One of the major national events which took place in the country recently was the celebration of the National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFAC).
The festival was supposed to have been held last year but for financial and other logistic problems it had to be postponed to this year, NAFAC 2006 was under the Theme: “Culture - A Vehicle for Wealth Creation”. The festival witnessed one of the most impressive gatherings of Ghanaians all over the country and even beyond in Wa from November 17-25, 2006 to give recognition to the importance of the event.
It was all joy and fun for one to see culture at its best. What was even more significant and added to the pomp and pageantry of this year’s festival was the attendance and participation of a cultural troupe from the neighbouring country of Burkina Faso.
This would certainly go a long way to cement the bonds of friendship and unity between the people of the two countries and enhance good neighbourliness and social integration. Indeed one can say without any shade of doubt that this year’s NAFAC has registered remarkable success and has been one of the best despite the challenges that confronted it.
It was certainly one week of national unity and cultural exposition at Wa, interspersed with intellectual discourse of topical issues of national concern.
Surely, the turn of Wa to complete the regional rotation cycle was indeed worth commending. Kudos to the Chiefs and people of the Upper West Region in general and Wa in particular, the Municipal/District Assemblies and indeed all and sundry, whose efforts made the festival a great success. |
